Disruptive startup Estimote launches RealityHack Challenge
Polish startup Estimote has issued an exciting challenge to their followers: build a brand new app for home automation that's compatible with Estimote's exciting Beacon technology. Their innovative product is already set to revolutionise how we interact with just about everything, providing 'personalised micro-location based notifications and actions'. In other words, by transmitting signals via Bluetooth, these tiny sensors introduce your smartphone apps to the physical world.
According to the Estimote website, compatible apps could soon greet you as you enter a shop, provide personalised product suggestions, take your payment and even organise delivery to your house.
For the RealityHack competition, co-founders Jakub Krzych and Łukasz Kostka have listed three everyday 'problems' and asked developers to become part of their ecosystem by creating apps to solve them. The challenges are: to give users peace of mind when leaving their homes, to make smart TVs and audio systems even smarter and more personalised, or to meticulously plan out schedules so that users are never late again. The apps must be in the App Store or Google Play by 16th May.
With the tech world still catching up with the potential of Beacons, this is a great opportunity for developers to show off their skills and come up with something truly disruptive - we're looking forward to seeing the winning entry.
